Pork Mince

Pork and Bacon Spaghetti

Ingredients

1 packet Heartland NZ pork mince

  • 200g NZ bacon, diced
  • ½ red onion, finely diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • ¼ tsp chilli flakes
  • 2 tsp thyme, chopped
  • 1 cup chicken stock
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 400g tin crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 packet dried pasta, spaghetti or other
  • Grated parmesan to serve

Method

  1. Fry bacon in a hot pan until cooked. Add pork mince and cook until brown – about 10 minutes.
  2. Add onion, garlic, chilli flakes, and thyme, and cook for 5 minutes over medium heat.
  3. Add tomato paste and cook for 2 minutes. Add crushed tomatoes, stock and sugar and cook until sauce is thick and glossy – about 20 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Meanwhile, cook spaghetti according to packet instructions.
  5. Serve pork sauce over spaghetti, and top with grated parmesan.
